Who We Are
At Cathedral School for Boys, we believe in a future where every boy experiences the joy of meaningful connections and the fulfillment of personal and intellectual growth — a vision that drives us to raise the bar in boys’ education.
Every day, we challenge ourselves to expand our minds, practice empathy, and lead with purpose, ensuring we are prepared for the lives ahead of us.
By fostering intellect, character, and leadership, we shape the exemplary young men our world needs.

Twelve miles a day, zero bars of service, and endless lessons in leadership.
Mr. Rahlson, director of Upper School, and 11 rising Grade 8 students just returned from an 8-day NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) canoe expedition through Labyrinth Canyon on Utah’s Green River. Over the course of 70 miles, the boys paddled in pairs, set up shelters, cooked their own meals, and navigated the heat, currents, and quiet of the desert. With canyon walls towering around them — and no screens in sight — they learned to lead through action, support one another, and adapt to challenges as they came.
Each night under the stars brought new skills, deeper trust, and a growing sense of what it means to lead. #OutdoorEducation #CSBLeadership #ChallengeBuildsCharacter @nolsedu
At Cathedral School for Boys, we celebrate the dignity and worth of every individual, and we stand with the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month and every month. We are proud to nurture a school environment where every student and family is seen, valued, and supported. Love is love. 🏳️🌈 #HappyPride #LoveIsLove #BelongingatCSB #Pride2025
Thank you to these amazing rising eighth graders for helping us pack up the library yesterday! As we continue to foster a culture of reading and strengthen media literacy throughout the school, this summer we will be enhancing our library spaces in both size and programming. In addition to expanding and updating classroom libraries in the Lower School, we will be adding dedicated library time for Upper School students next year while also expanding our Upper School library collection. Thanks for taking time out of your summers, guys! #CSBReads #readingislife #raisingthebaronraisingboys
Our Grade 8 and Kindergarten Big and Little Brothers have been getting in a lot of quality time together before graduation this week. Last week, the Kindergartners gave their Big Brothers hand-made thank-you cards before Hymn Sing, then they had a blast later in the afternoon at our annual Student Leadership Council Fair. Today the guys got to spend the day together exploring Oakland Zoo. Three more days before summer vacation … let’s savor each one! #biglittlebrothers #raisingthebaronraisingboys #classof2025 @oaklandzoo
Last night, as a final act of service before they graduate, some of our eighth graders (soon to be alumni) and teachers led the annual CSB-sponsored Trivia Dinner & Birthday Celebration at City Hope — a nonprofit partner dedicated to practicing radical hospitality to our neighbors in the Tenderloin. In preparation for the event, other students fired up the ovens on campus and baked over 200 homemade cookies and brownies — one last deliciously sweet farewell from our Grade 8 class before they move on to high school. While the boys were at City Hope, their parents got to enjoy a lovely evening reception with our head of school and his family. #csbclassof2025 #servicelearning #characterdevelopment @cityhopesf
