Admissions Process

We are excited to meet you and your son! The Admissions Team welcomes you and looks forward to helping guide you through the admissions process as you learn about Cathedral School for Boys.

Applying to Kindergarten

  • Step 1: Complete an Inquiry Form (Optional)

    Applicants for Kindergarten must be five years of age by July 15 of the year they will be entering Kindergarten. Click here to complete a Cathedral School for Boys inquiry form.

  • Step 2: Register for a Tour (Required)

    Beginning in late August 2024, you may register for Cathedral School Admissions events, including tours, through Ravenna (click here). We require all prospective parents / guardians to attend a Tour and a Parent / Guardian Interview — all other adult events are optional. All events are in-person unless otherwise indicated.

  • Step 3: Complete the Application (Required)

    The Cathedral School for Boys application may be accessed via Ravenna (click here). Though our preferred Kindergarten application deadline is December 31, 2024, we will continue to accept Kindergarten applications after December 31, 2024. There is an application fee of $100 that is due upon submission of the application. If you need a fee waiver, please reach out to us at admissions@cathedralschool.net.

  • Step 4: Sign Up for Parent / Guardian Interview (Required)

    Beginning in late August 2024, you may schedule your Parent / Guardian Interview on Ravenna (click here). Interviews will be conducted from October 2024 through January 31, 2025. Interview dates and times will be posted to Ravenna on a monthly basis.

  • Step 5: Sign up for Kindergarten Practice (Required)

    Kindergarten Practice is an occasion for applicants to spend time on campus and engage in activities that assess their readiness and potential. Beginning in late August 2024, Kindergarten Practices will be posted on Ravenna (click here) for January 11, 18, and 25, 2025.

    We welcome your son to spend a full day with us in January or February. We will host an assessment day on February 1, 2025, to assess applicants’ readiness and potential.

  • Admissions Policy

    Cathedral School seeks to enroll boys who will benefit from our program and who will contribute to our community life through their interactions with others and through their integrity and sense of responsibility. We seek boys of strong character who are excited to learn, curious about the world around them, not afraid to take risks, will lean into difficult conversations, and never stop growing.
     
    Cathedral School assesses all applicants to ensure that we are setting each boy up for academic success. Our assessment is based not only on academic aptitude, but also attitude. We seek boys who are eager to learn and work respectfully and collaboratively with their peers and teachers alike. In making admissions decisions, Cathedral School gives special consideration to siblings of boys currently enrolled at the school, as well as the sons of legacy families and faculty members. We endeavor to create a student body that is racially, ethnically, culturally, and socio-economically diverse, and represents a full range of family structures and religions. We do not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, sexual orientation, religion, ability, or national or ethnic origin.
     
    It is the earnest desire of the entire Cathedral School community that no boy who is qualified for admission should be denied the opportunity of attendance solely because of an inability to pay the full tuition fees. Cathedral School for Boys’ Adjustable Tuition program, which is funded to a large degree by the school’s Endowment, exists so that we can maintain a socio-economically diverse student body.
     
    Cathedral School is proud to offer the Community Scholars program, through which we strive to attract socio-economically diverse students of high academic potential in the Bay Area who will be entering grades five or six. For more information, please email admissions@cathedralschool.net.
     
    Interest in Cathedral School’s Adjustable Tuition program has no influence on the consideration of an application to the school. The same standards and criteria apply to all candidates who apply for Adjustable Tuition.
